Cyclists reach Greywell Tunnel

Four intrepid riders from the Wednesday Cycling group covered the Fleet to Greywell Tunnel section of the Basinstoke Canal, you can just make out the tunnel entrance to our left in the photo. This section has so far proved the toughest as much of the surface is stony, in places the tow-path is scarily narrow and there were lots of patches of very thick wet mud. After a very pleasant coffee stop at the Water Witch pub, close to the canal, we headed back. Such was the condition of the tow-path, and tiredness on the part of one member, that on the reverse trip we cheated a little and resorted to using the road part-way, making the trip somewhat shorter and very much smoother! Distance cycled 17.5 miles
